We can all agree that for most of us, we spend more time living life in general than on our sports, even though many of us spend a lot of time thinking about our sports.
Having a healthy lifestyle and diet is therefore fundamentally important to being healthier and happier and therefore enjoying and performing in your chosen sport.
At our workshop yesterday we were discussing wearable technology and how to use all the data that now bombards us from the various gadgets we have and the various blogs and social media advice that is almost forced upon us. Stuff like this I suppose!
Although we often use sophisticated tools to analyse the performance, training and diet of the people we work with, we like to keep things as simple and understandable as possible.
I recently read a book about nutrition that was very lengthy, but thankfully the author has produced an app that simplifies everything into how to have a healthy diet with all the nutrients you need for a healthy and hopefully happy and long life. The app is called The Daily Dozen. You can find out all about it on Dr Greger's website.
There is mounting evidence that diet has a big influence on mood and we know that some aspects of over training and chronic fatigue are closely associated with under-eating or unhealthy eating.
Getting your Daily Dozen won't necessarily mean you get enough calories to fuel your activities but it does give you a very good chance of meeting your micronutrient needs and combined with spot checks using a diet tracker to review macronutrients and calories sets you up for a healthier way forward without too much hassle.
And of course you can always see how your HRV trends change as you adjust your diet to see if it is making a difference.
Will you train for health or ill-health next season?
If you need a bit of help you can sign up for an in-depth consultation where we will help you analyze your training and nutrition data, and discuss plans for your upcoming goals.
