We can all agree that learning from our past is one of the best ways to make progress. So, reflecting on our past training experiences can provide invaluable insights that propel us forward. By analyzing what worked, what didn’t, and how our bodies responded to various stimuli, we can fine-tune our training regimens to enhance performance.
Remembering past mistakes and triumphs allows us to create a more effective and personalized approach to endurance sports.
I have found the best way to start is to write down how you remember the last year, what was good and what could have been better, just in simple terms, before looking over any data.
Then it is time to have a look at the data. I like to get some sort of annual view and then write notes of key events on that view. The Performance Management Chart in TrainingPeaks or the Fitness/Freshness Chart in Strava are great starting points.
In that way you can start to spot trends and add details as well as making a list of things you will continue doing and things to change.
What changes will you make for next season?
If you need a bit of help you can sign up for an in-depth consultation where we will help you analyze your training data and discuss plans for your upcoming goals.
