We can all agree that on some days the motivation to train and take on life's challenges feels effortless, while on others every pedal stroke is a struggle?
We've been developing a practical traffic light system that helps spot these patterns - including how your nutrition choices influence your training readiness.
What makes this approach different is how it connects three critical areas using a complete review of your training data and subjective comments, as well as an online journal if you have one. Your work/life dynamics, training metrics, and wellbeing indicators (including nutrition triggers, sleep quality, and general happiness). It's this complete picture that makes the difference between sustainable progress and frustrating setbacks.
The beauty of this system lies in its simplicity. A quick daily check across these areas tells you exactly where you stand.
Green zones show when everything's aligned - projects are on schedule, training metrics are strong (IF 0.60-0.70), and your nutrition is supporting good sleep and energy levels.
Yellow zones signal when one area needs attention - maybe work's getting hectic, your eating patterns are disrupted, or training feels harder than usual.
Red zones? That's when taking decisive action (like our 3-step response protocol) can prevent weeks of lost training.
You can see an example of our traffic light quick reference guide in the image. This is just an example the Zones and Responses are personal an based on a comprehensive review and interview process. You can learn more about how it works by clicking the button below.
If you want to have a go yourself, you can use this as a template to create your own system. It's a practical tool you can start using today to track how your nutrition and other factors influence your training readiness.
We're working on some exciting tools to make this system even more accessible. We would love to hear about your experiences with managing training consistency and nutrition.
